◆ THE YEAR

The Commitment.

A year you choose, at a cadence you name. The stakes are stated once, here, before you agree to them.

A year you choose

The Commitment is a year you choose, at a cadence you name, with the stakes stated before you agree to them. It has a beginning, a middle that can go wrong, and an end that is evaluated.

  • The clock starts on the day you commit. There is no date picker. Waiting is simply not committing yet.
  • The year runs through December 31, and every January 1 opens a fresh one.
  • Your history stays readable whether or not a commitment is running. The Record never ends and is never at stake.

Three cadences

You commit to one of three cadences, measured as an average of logged days per week.

  • Approach · 2.8 days/wkShowing up. The lowest cadence, not the easy one.
  • Ascent · 3.5 days/wkThe middle of the ladder.
  • Apex · 4.2 days/wkThe highest cadence the year asks.

Each cadence sits a fraction below the round weekly number on purpose. That gap is the buffer: months contain travel, illness, and work, and an average lets a week slip without the year slipping with it.

The first fifteen days

The first fifteen days after you commit are probation. Their only job is to let you find out what you can hold before the promise binds.

  • Nothing can lapse inside probation, and nothing is offered for sale inside it.
  • Your tier can move freely, up or down. This is the one window in the year where it can rise.
  • This is where you set your goal: one line, in your own words, naming what the year is for.
  • When probation closes, the tier you hold is the rate the year is measured against.

Good standing

After probation, a commitment is in good standing while two things hold together:

  • Your committed cadence, in logged days per week.
  • An average of at least fifteen minutes across the days you train. Sessions on the same day add together, and a session under five minutes does not count as a logged day.

It is a live reading, not a mark. A commitment that drifts off-pace can come back by getting back on pace.

If the year slips

A lapse is the commitment falling out of reach after probation. It is a state, not a verdict, and every log you made stays exactly as it was.

  • First lapse. You can recommit to the year with a $100 bet on your own finish. A fifteen-day reintegration period opens, held at your committed cadence. Pass it and your earlier work counts again. Your tier can hold or move down, never up. The last day to recommit is December 15.
  • Second lapse. The year closes and the $100 is forfeit. The Record goes read-only until the next year opens. Nothing is deleted.
  • There is one recommitment per year.

The end of the year

The year is evaluated once, on December 31. It qualifies when all of these hold:

  • At least 50 logged days.
  • At least a fifteen-minute average per logged day.
  • Your committed cadence, measured across the days the commitment was active.
  • The commitment is in good standing at that moment.

A year that qualifies earns the hoodie. A year that started after September 1 can still be kept, but it does not qualify for that year's hoodie.
